Primary Care Medical Associates (PCMA) is a group of Board Certified Internal Medicine Physicians dedicated to the health and well-being of its patients. The physicians are trained at major universities and teach at Northwestern University Medical School. The practice was started by Dr. Robert Perlmuter in 1988.

PCMA started out in a tiny office on Clark Street in 1988, with 2 doctors, 2 staff members and 2 exam rooms. We built and moved into our current space on Halsted in 2010. We now have 6 providers, 15 staff members and 11 exam rooms.

We are pleased to offer our patients knowledgeable physicians, friendly staff, a comfortable, modern office environment, and up-to-the-minute technology. We were an early user of Electronic Health Records, and are happy to say we haven’t used paper charts since 2005. We cannot lose your information!

As our name implies we, at PCMA, focus on primary care and disease prevention. Our providers will assess you and your lifestyle, make recommendations on disease prevention, and work with you to maintain and/or improve your quality of life.

We look forward to working with you.

Walk-In Hours

Established patients can be seen each weekday morning from 8:00-8:45 am by a physician or nurse practitioner, without making an appointment. Patients are seen on a first come, first served, basis. We advise our patients to arrive as close to 8:00 am as possible in order to be seen in a timely fashion. Walk-In hours are for a limited number of acute issues such as:
Flu symptoms – Rash – Sore throat – Urinary tract infection – Sprained ankles – STDs

Patients may not be seen during Walk-In Hours for the types of issues below. These matters require an appointment to ensure that the provider is able to do a thorough assessment to meet the patient’s medical needs.

Issues NOT included in Walk-In Hours
Prescription Refills – Follow up on chronic problems – Filling out forms – Multiple ailments – New patients

If you arrive during Walk-In Hours for any of these reasons, you will not be seen, and will be asked to make an appointment with your provider.

New patients must make an appointment to be seen by a physician or nurse practitioner during regular business hours.
